Terms & conditions
The fair, plain-English rules for hiring a skip with us. Have a read before you book — and if anything's unclear, just give us a ring.
Before you book
Last updated June 2026
Wakefield Skip Hire is the trading name of EFR Skips Ltd. Every skip we supply is provided in line with the terms and conditions set out below. We may update these terms from time to time, so please read them in full.
When you book online or over the phone, we send a text message asking you to read these terms. If you don't agree with anything here, please request a refund or cancel your skip by calling 01924 63 73 30.
01Acknowledging these terms
Every customer who books a skip online at wakefieldskiphire.co.uk or over the phone receives a text message urging them to read these terms and conditions. Please read them carefully. If you do not agree with any of the terms set out here, please request a refund or cancel your skip by calling us on 01924 63 73 30 straight away.
02Hire duration
All skips, whatever their size, are hired for a period of 7 calendar days. This can be extended at a nominal cost. The duration restriction does not apply to trade customers.
Skips are automatically booked for collection based on the hire period above. You'll receive a message confirming the collection booking. If you need your skip for longer, please contact us immediately so we can make the necessary adjustments. Additional hire time is granted at the discretion of Wakefield Skip Hire.
03Collection of skips
Skips will be collected by Wakefield Skip Hire at the earliest opportunity once the hire period ends or once you let us know your skip is ready. If you need the skip kept longer, contact us before the collection date so we can update your booking.
04Fires and combustion
Lighting fires near or inside the skip is strictly prohibited. The hirer is liable for any losses or damage to the skip container, excluding fair wear and tear. The cost of repairing a damaged skip can be between £800 and £1,000.
05Lost, stolen or damaged skips
If the skip is lost or stolen at any point during the hire period — up until the point we collect it — the hirer will be liable for the full purchase price of the skip. Please let us know immediately if the skip is damaged, lost or stolen.
06Access and risk off the public highway
Any order that requires our delivery vehicles to leave the public highway is carried out at the customer's own risk. The customer accepts full responsibility for any consequential damage that may occur to people, property or vehicles as a result.
07Delays beyond our control
Wakefield Skip Hire will not be held liable for any loss or damage caused by a failure to supply, or by any delay in supply, which is caused directly or indirectly by circumstances beyond our control — including but not limited to fire, accident, vehicle or machinery breakdown, or any act or neglect on the part of the customer.
08Cancellations and variations
Any skip deliveries cancelled at least 48 hours before the delivery day will not incur a charge. For later cancellations or changes, Wakefield Skip Hire reserves the right to charge for all costs incurred as a result of cancelling or varying the whole or part of an order, together with loss of profit and any other consequential loss.
Any arranged collections that we cannot fulfil because of customer delays, absence or other reasons may result in additional charges.
09Skip contents
The contents of returning skips are the responsibility of the hirer. Please only place permitted waste in your skip and let us know in advance about anything that needs special handling.
10Food waste
Wakefield Skip Hire is not licensed to handle food waste. Please do not dispose of any food waste in our skips, whether bagged or loose. If we receive a skip containing food waste, we have no option but to return the full skip to the hirer immediately, and no refund will be issued.
11Hazardous waste
Waste deemed hazardous by the European Waste Catalogue (Article 114 of the Hazardous Waste Directive 91/689/EC) must not be placed in the skip. Hazardous waste is strictly prohibited, and Wakefield Skip Hire is not licensed to handle these products.
All of our skips are segregated and sorted at our processing centre, so please do not try to hide hazardous items in the skip — doing so puts our workers at grave risk. If hazardous products are found, we will return the skip to the sending customer. We treat the following as hazardous waste:
- Asbestos and cement boards
- Fuels and large batteries
- Paints and gas cylinders
- Upholstered domestic seating that contains POPs (persistent organic pollutants) — including sofas, sofa beds, armchairs, kitchen and dining chairs, stools, footstools, home office chairs, futons, bean bags, and floor and sofa cushions
Items not considered to contain POPs include anything not upholstered (for example, a wooden chair with no cushioned or textile back, seat or arms), deckchairs, and waste from manufacturing new domestic seating that the maker can demonstrate does not contain POPs.
12Controlled waste (accepted at extra cost)
Wakefield Skip Hire can accept the following controlled waste at an additional charge. Please let us know about these items as early as possible and make payment before collection:
- Mattresses (single)£10
- Mattresses (double)£15
- PlasterboardBy weight
- Carpets, underlay, rugs & carpet tilesBy weight
- Roof felt, bitumen felt & playground rubberBy weight
- Large appliances (excluding fridges)£10 each
- Fridge freezer (small / large)£30 / £35
Items priced “by weight” are charged according to weight in tonnes — please contact us for a price.
13Overloading
The hirer must ensure the skip is not overloaded by weight or volume at the time of collection. Skips should be loaded no higher than the top of their sides. Wakefield Skip Hire reserves the right to refuse to collect overloaded skips, and any costs incurred because of unsafe loads — including wasted journeys — will be passed on to the hirer.
Overloading will always result in a surcharge or refusal of collection. We only refuse to collect a skip where it is deemed unsafe. Our drivers observe health and safety regulations diligently, both for their own safety and that of other road users.
14Large skips (14 and 16 yard)
Our extra-large 14 and 16-yard skips are for light materials only, such as household clear-outs or green waste. Please do not fill them with soil, rubble, bricks or other heavy materials. Heavy materials make the skip too heavy to be loaded safely back onto our trucks.
15Payment terms
For non-account holders, payment is always taken before delivery. Account holders pay according to agreed terms, subject to a written agreement with Wakefield Skip Hire.
16Skip permits
Skips can only be placed on the public highway by prior arrangement with Wakefield Skip Hire. A permit to site a skip on the public highway, including footpaths, is required from the relevant local authority. We can arrange the permit on your behalf for a charge. Charges vary between authorities but are usually around £40 for an initial two-week period. Skip permits are non-refundable.
If you require any clarification on permits or any of our terms, please call us on 01924 63 73 30 during working hours.
17Paperless office
Wakefield Skip Hire understands the impact of unnecessary waste, so we run a paperless office and encourage others to do the same. If you need an emailed or printed invoice, transfer note or proof of delivery, please call us or email the office at info@wakefieldskiphire.co.uk.
18Refunds
Refunds are handled by EFR Skips Ltd and are, in all cases, issued in the same form as the original payment method.
